Repurpose Your Old Toothbrush

Woman with Toothbrush - surprised

We’ve got six creative ways to use old toothbrushes.  By the time you are 65, if you follow the recommended practice of replacing your toothbrush every three months, you will have gone through approximately 260 toothbrushes. By repurposing old toothbrushes, you will save money and help the environment.

Here are just 6 of the many ways you could reuse old toothbrushes…

  1. Clean Jewelry – Soak your jewelry in warm water and dishwashing soap. Then use the soft toothbrush to gently brush it. The brush can get into the intricate parts of the jewelry. Rinse and repeat as necessary.
  2. Car Detail – There are many crevices that a cloth has difficulty getting to, that an old toothbrush can get to easily. If your headlights or taillights are really dirty, you can use toothpaste and the repurposed toothbrush to rub away the grime.
  3. Clean Dirt from Shoes – One recipe calls for scrubbing with a toothbrush dipped in a teaspoon of laundry detergent mixed with a cup of water to remove mud and dirt. However, this is not recommended for foam or leather sections of a shoe.
  4. Clean Your Computer Keyboard – Studies show that a keyboard can harbor more bacteria than a toilet seat. Clean grease and dirt off the computer keyboards with an old toothbrush and a solution of alcohol and water.
  5. Scrub in Bathroom – A toothbrush is perfect for cleaning hard to reach nooks and crannies and for scrubbing grout. Use white vinegar to wet areas around taps and scrub with the toothbrush to remove the grime that collects there.
  6. Be Crafty – Use an old toothbrush to splatter paint. Dip about half of the bristles into paint or ink and rub your thumb across the toothbrush to get a speckled look. Use the toothbrush to spread glue to the edges of the material. Add texture to clay, oil, or acrylics by dabbing the bristles onto the clay or canvas.

It’s kind of fun to know that the common toothbrush can serve yet another purpose when it needs to be replaced!
