How Our Teeth Grow In

When and how primary tooth eruption, also known as baby teeth or “milk teeth” occurs, seems to be hereditary but does happen earlier in girls than boys. Usually, these first teeth appear around 6 months old.

First Things First

What should you expect when primary teeth appear in your kids? Common symptoms include:

To help alleviate pain, gently rub your child’s gums with a clean finger, small cool spoon, or a wet washcloth.

Secondary teeth appear around the age of 5 or 6 just after the primary teeth have been pushed out.

Your child’s molars should be fully present around 10-12 years of age.

How Wise are Wisdom Teeth?

Finally, wisdom teeth (our 3rd set of molars) appear when we reach our late teens or early twenties.

Obviously, we are older and wiser, hence the name. At least, we feel like we know everything when we are in our twenties, right?

In most cases, at least one wisdom tooth will be impacted (not fully grown in) and will need to be removed. Also, if these wisdom teeth of yours are causing an overcrowding issue, you will need to speak with your dentist about your options.
